The burnt stew is a traditional hot beverage originating from Paraguay; in our country, it is consumed quite frequently, with some variations.
Paraguayan Stew
Ingredients
3 tablespoons of Sugar
2 tablespoons of Maté herb
1 liter of Water
Lit charcoal embers
Preparation
Step 1 : To prepare mate with embers, start by bringing water to a boil.
Step 2 : Then, place the mate herb and sugar in a suitable container.
Step 3 : Put the lit charcoal embers on top of the mate and sugar.
Step 4 : Next, pour the preparation into the hot water, letting it sit for a few minutes.
Step 5 : Then, strain and serve in a mug.
Step 6 : If preparing mate without embers, begin by making caramel with melted sugar.
Step 7 : Once ready, add hot water and the mate herb.
Step 8 : Afterward, strain the preparation and serve hot or cold, according to your preference.
Step 9 : For a complete experience, it is recommended to serve burnt mate with milk and accompany it with Paraguayan classics like chipa and mbejú.
